SPBR salutes: Brendon from NYC Animal Care & Control

SPBR first met Brendon from NYCACC in August, 2008 --

-- and something was definitely different about him.

After driving 7 hours with a momma and litter, I immediately wanted to thank him for his journey --

-- but as he opened his van door, all I heard from him was many a profuse "thank you, thank you, thank you" for saving momma Star and her litter --

-- Brendon was doing so much more than "a job" for the ACC -- he truly believed in it.

At left, he's with his rescued Chi-mix -- a proud Dad -- !!

Someone in SPBR mentioned that Brendon had gone through a rehab program prior to getting his ACC job, and that it was a big deal --

-- not knowing much of it, I didn't ask questions.

Well, last night, he emailed out more information on "The Doe Fund" -- which is --

"The Doe Fund's mission is to develop and implement cost-effective, holistic programs that meet the needs of a diverse population working to break the cycles of homelessness, addiction, and criminal recidivism.

All of The Doe Fund's programs and innovative business ventures ultimately strive to help homeless and formerly incarcerated individuals achieve permanent self-sufficiency."

More specifically, at right, is the backgrounds these men have come from -- truly an uphill battle.

It's refreshing to see that what was written about Brendon is exactly what we, the rescue "customers", see --

-- unwaivering commitment, positive attitude and a genuine interest and love for the animals he helps save.

At left is Ye-yo, from Brooklyn, now cared for and happy in Colorado, thanks to Brendon's help -- !!

So, as we see it, The Doe Fund gave Brendon a chance, when nobody else would --

-- and Brendon thrived. To return the favor, Brendon now gives many helpless, needy animals a chance, like the litter at the right -- and they in turn thrive.
