Last week, I got a call from an ACO in Western New York and they have a 9 mo. old brindle female pit bull who needs help.
The police were called to the house originally because the brindle's brother, a german shepherd dog, was mauling a person.
The pit bull watched, and was sweet through the whole ordeal. she was seized due to lack of rabies vacc.
The county where the dog lives euth's all pit bulls, but the sheriffs really really like this girl --
-- they say she is wonderful with people,, cats, animals, children, men, women.
She has till this March 14th to get a foster or adopter. |
I also received the following sad news on Baby from a neighbor --
"I was able to find out a little bit more about the Pitbull from the way it sounds like the Pitbull was kept outdoors all the time They said the Pitbull was very very nice dog. They felt so bad for her because she lived poorly and was always outdoors even as a puppy, she hardly got any attention. The German Shepherd and the Pitbull had the free roam in the yard with dog houses in the back. Supposely there was more dogs other than German Shepherd and Pitbull living there, my friend heard their friends took two other dogs that lived there."
And, in addition, this woman visited baby at the pound, and writes --
"I was able to get a chance to meet her tonight - she really looks more like a Pitbull in a person. I don't think she has any Mastiff mix in her. She also really does not look as big as she does in the pictures or have long legs. She is a very good medium size. She is under knee high. She is very cute !!
Her name is Baby - that is what the previous owners named her. They really did not say much about her expect she was good with children, dogs and cats. Housebroken.
When the pound worker opened the kennel, she looked confused and scared at first. She was shaking... when she saw me she slowly crawled to me and laid on my feet. You can tell she wants to be loved and cuddled. She is very submissive. She loved having her belly rubbed. She allowed me to kiss her on her nose. I have to say she is really very sweet and very gentle. I was having trouble getting pics of her because she wanted to be so close to me. Really very nice girl. She does have very sad looking eyes.. "

"Of course while I was there I had to look at all the dogs in stray holding area and make sure each one got some treats, Baby was crying and wanted my attention while I was giving others treats. I felt bad, it looked like Baby wanted to get out of kennel again and wanted to be petted more. I really do think she is a very highly adoptable dog and would make someone's very nice loving companion and wonderful lap dog." |
Okay, now our goal here isn't to save the world, but it IS to give a fighting shot to girls like this, who have had bad luck since they were born, basically.
From the write-ups, this girl is wonderful -- perhaps TOO wonderful. How can a dog fogive so much of us humans?
So, if you're interested in a 9 month old diamond in the rough, who will need obedience and who will blossom in your care, please fill out an adoption application above.
I have to also give a shout-out to Darlene, who is my contact on these pups -- she braves the hell of winter up here to get descriptions and pictures of these virtually forgotten and discarded dogs, believing in their temperaments and hoping and trying to get them better futures -- that, to me, is inspirational.

Baby is one of the girls now!
Well, in the past week, Baby's life went from "bleak" to "perfect" -- !!
Her kill-date was scheduled for last Friday, March 14th --
-- and Darlene and I did some quick leg-work to get her to safety!!
Next, I assessed Baby and she came in with a big PASS -- I mean, what a great girl.
She reminded me of the reason I love dogs so much -- she's a perfect specimen!
Then, next, we arranged to have her spayed, and down to New Jersey she went, under Dr. Denise's watchful laser, she was successfully spayed -- !!
After her spay, little Baby was all set up for the perfect home --
-- and that we had!
Jenn, an SPBR volunteer, had done a prior home visit with a family in Jersey, and they PASSED --
-- well, once they saw Baby's picture, they said, "THAT'S our GIRL" -- !!
And you wonder -- you just wonder -- if little Baby knew how many people were pulling for her -- we think so!
Rae, also from our forum, then worked diligently to arrange the details, and before you know it, Baby was on her way home!
Here she is, in Jenn's car, going to the meet and greet --
-- she looks a bit in disbelief -- !!
For a quick moment, she wonders, "What if they don't like me? What if they say I'm too big?"
Then she says, "NAAAAH -- can't happen -- !!"
So before she knew it, Baby met momma --
-- and she fell in love.
This was all while Baby's future sisters sat upstairs, awating their intros to our girl, 1-by-1 -- !!
Jenn writes of the family --
"They have three girls -- they were very well behaved, friendly and playful. The parents were definitely in charge, and the girls listened well to them."
Well, what a great start -- !!
So, the first daughter --
-- PASS!
The second --
-- PASS PASS -- !!
And the third, well we didn't get a picture --
-- but PASS PASS PASS -- !!!
So, all along, Baby did WONDERFULLY, and proved herself a PRINCESS beyond belief --
-- and look at her new momma here -- she definitely wins the "cool shoes of the week" award -- !!
And there we go, with the family complete.
Ironically, Baby's new Dad is a minister, and just imagine all the prayers and blessings this girl went through to get this far so quickly --
-- THANK YOU ALL!
