Junior's not a lab, but he's willing to pose as one -- to escape the Katrina aftermath -- !!

Here's Junior, whose foster momma writes --

"My name is Tracey and I am the president of Adopt a Lab of Georgia.  Due to the fact that we and the other rescue groups near us have received many pets from Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita, we are experiencing a major increase in labs and lab mixes being euthanized in shelters here in GA.

While we are doing everything we can to rescue as many of these labs as possible, we are in desperate need for assistance."

" We are trying to plan a transport for some of our fully vetted labs in a week or so.  We have several other groups up north who have agreed to take some of our labs and lab mixes.  I am just wondering if you may be able to take some.  All of our dogs are fully vetted and are heartworm negative.

All of the other lab rescue groups in the area are full, so please help us if you can.  You can check out our website at www.adoptalabga.com "

So, you can see little Junior is not a labby at all, but a pit bull -- and a sweet-looking boy at that --

-- he's one of the thousands of pit bulls in Southern shelters being squeezed out of life due to overcrowding from Katrina --

-- want to help? Can you make a commitment to him forever?

If so, fill out an adoption application above!

As a side-note, he's in a Priefert kennel, from what it looks -- these can be found here and are GREAT kennels outdoors and also indoors as play-pens -- they can be found at your local ag store!

Here's an update from his foster momma:

"Thank you so much!  The only thing about the story is that Junior didn't come from a Hurricane victimized family.  He was here before we got the huge influx or Hurrican victimized families and their pets in our people and pet shelters.  Since he is fully vetted and ready to go and is already well socialized, we are trying to find a place for him and some of our adoption ready dogs so that we can have adequate space for the other rescue dogs that have come from the hurricane.  Since we had a large Red Cross program here for evacuees, a lot of them came through here and got financial assistance but had no place for their animals. We took as many as week could but in order to have the space and resources, including volunteer foster homes, necessary to work w/ those , we need to move some of our other ones.

A lot of the animals that we have gotten from victims are being socialized and getting a lot of TLC before we even try to adopt them out.  Some of them are obviously traumatized and we are doing our best to rehabilitate. I am a licensed therapist here in GA and I have specialized in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in people and I'll tell you that I have seen a lot of it here in the animals too.  We want to make sure that we foster those animals long enough and rehabilitate them enough that their adoption is successful and not more traumatic for them. Thanks so much for your help! "
