Well, this is a story about a dear girl, Tricky, who came to SPBR last fall on a transport and a dream.
She came from the deep South, where her shelter prospects were dim to dark --
-- in fact, the shelter staff, who loved this girl, knew they couldn't find her a great home, and they told the staff, "We know what you have to do, just don't tell us when you do it."
Well, thanks to some very generous people out there, within days Tricky was up North, out of danger --
-- and was she ever SWEET -- !!
Tricky is truly a pocket-pit of a girl --
-- she may be mixed with Jack Russell Terrier, or she may just be plain tiny --
-- but this girl is a sweetheart and a ham at the same time -- :D
Here she is, after her arrival, and ready to rip up the place -- !! |
Don't forget, though, that while this girl is very puppyish in her ways, she's also a real beauty, and really fond of human affection -- !! |
Another beauty shot of our patch-eyed girl -- |
-- and here, in CT, at a meet and greet, ready to run run run -- !! |
Bahaha --
-- if ever a happier girl existed -- !!
And here she is with Dot -- who now lives in Long Island --
-- the both of them enjoying the open pasture -- !!
So, fall turns to winter, and Tricky gets a foster home, that you'll see --
-- and here she is -- a princess!!
There's nothing wrong with a little spoilin', Trick -- and from what you've been through, you deserve it -- !!
She is a good girl with other dogs --
-- being a female, she doesn't like alpha females, so she would be best as an only-dog, or in a home with a mellow male pup.
Here she is with her fellow "mellow male pup" --
-- our own Victor -- a boy who didn't know the word "play" before Tricky, and now it's his middle name -- !!
Let's not forget, too, that Tricky is a momma at heart --
-- though she's never had babies of her own, she did WONDERFULLY with the forest pups, and with her foster Venus and Mars.
Here she is, in somewhat disbelief of Mars' tactics -- !! |
-- and before you know it, she has a pile of pupchens at her feet -- :D |
Don't worry though -- Tricky was built to play --
-- and play with these babes she did -- !!
So, in her quieter moments, Tricky is quite the couch potato, spending her days snoozing here or there, and loving on those around her. |
All that, and this girl is a compact beauty --
-- a real Ms. America, she is.
If you're interested in a great running partner, or a wonderful bed-warmer, and if you can look at Tricky and say, "You will never know the life again you had before you came to rescue" --
-- and if you can love her like a child - -one of your own -- forever --
-- well then, fill out an adoption application above -- !!
Home home, our girl is HOME!
Well, Tricky's forever home all started with an application -- a great one.
Before I knew it, Julia came over to my house, and we were off to Joe's house.
I was going empty handed, and Julia said, "Hey, why not bring Tricky?"
So, before you know it, Tricky was announcing her roost at Joe's -- !!
Here she is, at our meeting --
-- sorta like, "Let me IN -- !!"
And then, "Oh hi -- I'm Tricky -- and you're gonna love me -- !!" |
Inside Julia preps Tricky on how to win a man's heart --
-- "Don't pee on the carpet -- always tell him he's right -- and always look cute -- !!"
Joe is an art teacher at a local school --
-- and his wall art is great --
-- here I thought I was getting old --
-- probably one of the best album covers -- and albums -- ever.
On to Tricky --
-- Joe says, "I wanted a white dog -- and well, this girl fits my life GREAT -- she's athletic and a nice size" --
-- Trick says, "I told you so -- !!"
As we go in to the kitchen, Joe looks at the counter and says, "My SISTER got this stuff for her -- honest -- !!" |
Tricky talks with her tail --
-- a language we can all understand -- !!
And then, the bond begins to form -- |
-- a bond that had Julia and me saying, "UMMM -- maybe we should leave -- !!"
After the home visit, Joe wrote --
"thank you for the home visit and for bringing tricky. I think shes
perfect and I'd love to give her a good home her with me. Im competely
sold on her and I agree that shes probably perfect for the house and
for me. Please let me know the next step and what I need to do.
thanks again
Joe"
Well, sold on her he was -- !!
Here's more lovin' from our girl, after the placement --
-- as you can see, it's all about Joe and Trick -- !!
Joe writes -- "shes a lot of work! but shes amazing. She doing so well. were working
on a few things and shes making progress. She took well to her crate,
her bed, her food and especially her chew toys. she got some commands
down and were working on more. she loves to go out n search around so
when we walk were working on having her heel and shes getting it
slowly. she very lovable and affectionate to everyone and shes a
permanent family member. Shes on a pretty good schedule
too!
thanks again
JOE"
Here she is, guarding Joe's coveted vinyl collection -- !! |
And then here --
-- here is "where Dad pumps up" -- !!
And Trick, we know --
-- it's ALL about the ACCESSORIES -- !!
Just LOOK at that COLLAR -- !!!
Your sister bought it for her -- right, Joe??!!
:D
And these pictures -- well they just had to go in --
-- a girl home -- a girl happy --
-- a chance in a million.
She represents all the ones that didn't make it, in a way.
She came a thousand miles, and she's finally home.
Joe writes --
"Eric,
trick is doing great! i hope and feel she truely is "home", i'd do
anything 4 her, probably too much! Shes a lil spoiled. She loves our
runs through the trails at the park. after some trial and "error"
"shes
on evo (thanks julia n' crew!) and doing well. She got k9 advantix and
her rabies shot last week, along with getting registered at town hall.
she is a loved member of the fam, my sister adores her and my mom is so
excited to have a granddog." |
"she mouths.... alot, she jumps up...alot,
and she heels for 0.2 seconds before barreling off in full marathon
sprint. but hey im getting in better shape (without the basement
rowing in underwear! j/k)." |
"She loves marrow bones, knuckles and......
socks when shes trying to get attention." |
"I hope im giving her the care
she deserves, i even wish i could help out more with the rescue n
foster another dog, those pics on the forum pull on the hearstrings,
but mayb when i get more land n a bigger house.
her blocky collar is
being awaited anxiously, considering shes on her 2nd one from the
store. She hates it when i spar on the puching bag in the basement,
she bites! i think she thinks were playing rough or maybe shes just
protecting the innocent punching bag. I am very greatful to everyone
at the rescue for all they do and have done.
thanks
Joe n' the Trickster"
Okay, now those aren't words written by someone who "got a dog" --
-- they're written by someone who loves his newest family member dearly, and who embraces the opportunity he has been given.
I am so thankful for Joe's adoption, and am so happy with all the hard work the people on our forum did to finally get this girl home.
Here's a king and his queen --
-- and don't think for a second I wasn't saying "Joe, look at the camera" when I was taking the pictures --
-- this was Joe's pose -- lost in a new world with a girl he loves very much --
-- a girl who almost became a statistic, and then beat every odd imagineable to be where she is today.
This is one of my favorite pictures of the placement --
-- Tricky at home, finally -- wagging with joy --
-- and Joe similing, enjoying a better life --
-- a life full of licks, wags, and snores -- !!
As we left, we wondered if Tricky would try and follow us --
-- well, she didn't.
And as we pulled out, her eyes didn't follow us either --
-- instead, she looked out to her empire, reviewing it from her new perch, knowing finally, that she was home.
From Joan in Marion to Julia in Buffalo to Joe, finally, in Buffalo, thank you for believing in SPBR, and in this girl --
-- she's home.
