Dea finally got what she deserved!!
This is one of the easiest, happiest updates I have had to yet write --
-- it is about Dea, a pit bull who was bought in Italy by an American GI, who brought her back to the US and could no longer keep her.
The GI used Dea for breeding and, in the past, she had some unfortunate turns of events in her life. More on her past can be seen here.
ANYWAY, this update is a CELEBRATION the blessed life Dea finally has. I love this dog. I loved having her as a foster, as a mother, and I love seeing her so happy and content in her forever home.
This is why I do it.

|
First, momma Dea came to SPBR one month pregnant. she had about another month of gestation, so I basically super-fed her a raw diet --
-- she got whatever she wanted -- lamb, beef, tripe, turkey, chicken --
-- she was the momma, the princess, and she was eating for more than one -- !!
|
Here's Dea a week before she gave birth --
-- NO ONE could have imagined what a surprise we were to get -- !!
|
|
-- and here's the result --
13 HEALTHY, HAPPY PUPPIES --
-- and she was SUCH the momma -- taking care of them
all herself, and ALL OF THEM SURVIVED AND ARE
IN OUTSTANDING HOMES!
|
|
|
Here's Dea, basically saying, "It's okay, Eric -- I have everything under control." |
As the puppies grew, Dea stayed tried and true to her babies... and then some. Satin's puppies took advantage of her kindess and had a snack or two -- !! |
|
Even when the puppers were
weaned, Dea still watched over
them, and was never selfish
with them -- she never ate their
food or took any toys from them.
For those who think rescuing
puppies is a cash-cow, a few
consecutive $1,000 dog food
deliveries will persuade you otherwise!

Anyway, with all the young'uns in their homes, it was Dea's turn to become a princess, and to move away from her mommy role --
-- here she is, meeting her new boyfriend, Josh.
Josh: "Hi, I'm Josh, a big, goofy, Golden."
Dea: "Hi, I'm Dea, an Italian pit bull."
Josh: "Oh sh*t!"
|
Dea: "Aw, come on, Joshie -- I'm a sweetheart, give me a chance." |
|
|
-- and a chance, she got.
Here I am with Dea and Josh -- I think I'm happier than they are, so ecstatic to get her the PERFECT home!"
PS - the tears after her departure are omitted.
|
Here's Linda, Dea's new momma, and Josh's original mom.
Linda is the BEST. She spent many weekends tirelessly helping Dea and her puppies, fully commited to the dogs, and the breed.
That Linda adopted Dea makes her even BETTER -- she gave Dea the best home a dog could ever want.
|
|
|
Fast forward a few months, and Dea's had no problem assuming the role of a princess at Linda's house... |
... here she is, chumming with Joshie... |
|
|
... and here he is, basically with a "I let you win" look on his face -- |
So, that's it. Dea got what she deserved. I am so proud of
her and of Linda -- Dea proved the best, most loving mother
I have ever seen, plus a sweetheart of a dog.
Linda bucked her family and friends' general "don't adopt
a pit bull" advice, and instead gave this girl life -- beautiful life.
Further, Linda's a dentist, so imagine her small-talking
with her patients, "Oh, yeah, I have a Golden and a Pit Bull" -
-- now THAT'S positive pit bull press --
THANK YOU ALL!
