Lizzy's lavished and loved!!

Well, here's a true "happy ending" story... a rags to riches end for baby
Jet (now Lizzy), who went from being in her pregnant momma at the New Haven shelter, to a forever home that I consider one of my best.

Now here's the rest of the story...

Here is momma Satin, as she came to rescue, in September, 2004.

As you can see, she was quite preggers, and ready for a quite place to have her babies...

Fast forward a few months, after everyone's adopted, Satin went to her forever home, to Brian and Doreen, in Mass --

-- a perfect forever home, indeed -- I receive frequent updates from Doreen on how she loves Satin, and for all the new nicknames Brian and she have for her -- !!

Okay... back to little Lizzy --
day one
week two
week four

-- here she is, on her birthday, and as she developed in to a fine young lady!

Lizzy's litter was one of 11, 10 of whom survived. Little Olive is still remembered...

Here's the rest of the group, eating their raw breakfast... !!

... and here's Satin's litter combined with Dea's puppers...

... honestly, that's one time in my life I look back and say, "How did I get through that" --

-- well, the kindness of wonderful volunteers (thanks, Linda!) plus my ever-helpful parents, coupled with understanding neighbors went a LONG way --

Here's the puppy look-see day we had back in October... you can see these boys are proud of their find... !

... and Mom even approves...!

At the home visit, Tom teaches his boys careful treatment of such a young lass...

... as seen in the expression of the right-most child, I think they were more scared of her than she was of them -- !!

And now for the UPDATES, which I love -- here's the picture Tom and his family put in their Christmas card, announcing their newest arrival --

Tom wrote, "Lizzy is doing great. Only a few little accidents here and there. She knows a lot of commands, but still pretends not to understand "come".

She has put on a few pounds in the last 6 weeks since you dropped her off gaining about 10-12 lbs. She is between 16 & 20 lbs now, and eating anything (or amount) you put in front of her. She is a very happy waggy puppy."

As the months progressed, so did Lizzy's size --

... here's Tom's update...

"Look at Lizzy's pretty "shield" and her little white feet. I taught her to "whisper" today and she is working on rolling over on her own. You have to teach them tricks..... I'm a good responsible dog owner, you can see she's got all her tags and whatnot. Time to change the collar soon though. The little pink one is geting too small!

I think Nancy will be looking for something in Lilly Pulitzer or something."

I don't know who "Lilly Pulitzer" is, but it sounds like pricess treatment for this girl!

Oh, here's what I found on Lilly on the web -- PRINCESS -- !!

-- here she is on her personalized bed...

... and another update...

"Lizzy is doing great. It is hard to beleive that we have only had her for 2 months as she has become a real member of the family and feels like she has been with us forever."

... and my favorite update...

"My wife had 6 ladies over the other night and a few have dogs about 1 year old. I brought Lizzy in from her walk and as usual she sat on the mat and waited for me to get the towel. She offered one paw, which I wiped, I let go, and she offered the other paw which I wiped. I then said "up up" and she stood up allowing me to wipe her back feet.

These ladies could not believe what was happening in front of them as Lizzy was trained that well.

This has worked out really well Eric. Thanks for doing what you do."

Finally, the irony of this -- Lizzy met up with her sister in obedience class! Tom wrote,

"Funny story... Nancy took Lizzy to Dog Gone Smart in Norwalk for behavior lessons (seems Nancy doesn't like the way Lizzy jumps on the couch when excited), and there is another dog there who looks just like Lizzy. The two dogs were so excited to see each other that they both lost bladder control. Apparently, they licked and sniffed each other tails wagging for the whole session.

Well, you guessed it, the other dog was a litter mate."

That other baby is Pam's Ernie, who is Lizzy's big sister -- !!

Well, there you have it -- a perfect forever home.

Not only did Tom and Nancy give Lizzy the chance of a lifetime by going to
Petfinder to adopt Lizzy (instead of a breeder), but they are giving her the
tools to flourish every day, with obedience training, socialization, and plenty of love.

They are also bringing up three fine boys with this girl, teaching their
sons the love and respect for dogs that will last a lifetime and that they
can some day pass on to their kids.

THANK YOU, ALL!

Lizzy at 7 months!

Well, here's Lizzy in April 2005 -- all's going GREAT with her -- !!

Here's what Tom writes:

"She is 42 lbs. at 7 months.

Hope all is well.
Tom"

GREAT WORK, Lizzer!

By the way, LOVE the ears!

Lizzy's Summer 2005 beauty-shot...

Tom writes:

"Here is a picture for the collection of Lizzy enjoying the beach on Nantucket."

Ummm... I think she's doing a-okay -- notice her smile -- !!

Great work, Tom and family!
