Well, Snowflake's rainy days have certainly passed -- !! |
Click here for Delilah's 2 month update!
Click here for her 6 month update!
Well, here's the story of little Snowflake -- a sweet girl who came to rescue after a Bronx school-teacher saw Snowy being neglected.
Snowflake's prior "owner" was a 26 year-old single mom with 5 kids -- the kids were the primary care-giver, even though the oldest was not yet a teen.
The kids used to draw on Snowflake with magic markers and yell at her when she was excited to see them -- :(
This picture is when she came to rescue -- and is enough to break your heart -- she was SO timid and scared -- I didn't think she'd ever come out of it --
Here's what the teacher, Beth, wrote:
"She is a 6 month old black and white pit bull
who weighs about 20 pounds. She lives with 5 kids, 3 of whom are screaming lunatics, in a tiny apartment in the South Bronx and I don't think her life has been
hideous so much as unloved and neglectful. She is timid but loving and cuddled up to me when I knelt to hug her."
Well, THOSE days are over -- !!
Here's Snowflake's new momma, Kim --
-- who LOVES the idea of re-naming her Delilah --
-- before you know it, Snowflake (aka, Delilah) will be sending out long-distance dedications and pillow-talk on late-night radio -- !!!
Anyway, for the time being, Snowflake enjoys hamming it up with her new momma -- !! |
Here's Brian, Snowflake's new Dad, and Kim's boyfriend.
Kim and Brian waited almost a month for Snowflake, awaiting Kim's completing her MCAT exam for medical school --
-- then, the day after the exam, with their home visit already completed, they got their girl -- !!
So, with that, Snowflake whispers, "Mom, it's time to go home -- !!" |
Not before her good-byes though... |
... and a victory this girl's placement is --
-- she went from a life of misery that was destined for the kill-shelters of NYC to, instead, a wonderful home --
-- all because of a caring teacher...
Here's the new family, getting ready for their glamour shot -- !! |
... and glamour we have -- happy together. |
So, Snowflake has come a long way --
-- from the timid little girl that no one could reach...
... to the loving, happy pup that everyone adores.
Do you think she knows how blessed she is???
I think she does -- for sure -- !!
Thank you, Kim, Beth and Brian, for giving this girl the life she deserves -- !!
Baby at two months!
Well, my email from Brian and Kim basically defines "happy endings" -- Kim writes:
"We've had Delilah for a little over two months now and she's gained a little bit of weight and we finally figured out her allergy, it was to gluten (carbs?), and since we have changed her diet all her little red spots have disappeared. It meant throwing out a ton of treats that we had bought her, but its worth it to not worry about what those spots were!"
She continues:
"She is very well behaved with us and we have taken her camping, to New York City, even to meet my parents, who aren't dog people and had a lot of hesitations about pit bulls. My dad fell in love with her as does everyone she meets. She is wonderful with people, not so wonderful with other dogs, but under the right circumstances she has managed to make a few puppy "aquaintences." She even made nice with a 90 pound rottie named "Rocky"
while we were camping."
And...
"She just had her one-year-old birthday and I am embarassed to say that I bought her clothes, something I NEVER thought I would do for a dog.
Appropriately, being that she lives in Boston, I got her a "Yankee's Suck"
T- shirt (Brian is die-hard red sox fan, and I'm a pretty big fan myself) as well as a sweatshirt that says I heart NY. I couldn't help it!"
Finally --
"Since I am leaving the city I wanted her to have something from there. She didn't like the clothes much, but the other toys, bones, treats, etc that she got from the 2 of us should more than make up for her humiliation at having to wear a dog T-shirt!"
Brian adds --
"Delilah has been the perfect dog.
She keeps surprising us with how well behaved she is. I've had other dogs in my life and no other dog has been nearly as intelligent as she is. Even though Kim only sees her infrequently she still knows who Kim is and she knows that she's an important person in her life."
He concludes:
"Whenever we bring her somewhere where she needs to be on her best behavior, she knows it (whether it be with Kim's parents or my 1.5 year old nephew) All she wants is to make us happy and of course all we want is to return the favor."
So, this girl is a success --
-- she came a long, long way from that cold winter day when a caring NYC school-teacher brought her to me --
-- Delilah (then Snowy) was so scared and timid that she wouldn't even come out of her crate to pee -- she'd just shake --
-- now look at this girl. And it's because of Brian and Kim that dog rescue is worth it. Delilah is part of their family, she is well-socialized and they recognize and respect her individual personality.
Thank you so much for making this girl's life complete!!
Delilah's 6 month update!
Well, I just heard from Kim and Brian, and I couldn't be happier --
-- little D here went from a Brooklyn nightmare to life as a spoiled suburban princess -- !!
Just look at how happy she is -- with no more kids coloring her with magic-markers, no more being jerked around on a leash by an 8-year old --
-- just happy, and SPOILED -- !!

Brian and Kim write --
"
Hi eric!
Hopefully you can tell from the attached pictures that delilah (formerly known as snowflake) is doing quite well. In the time since we last wrote she has graduated from her first set of obedience classes--in which she was truly the favorite. We started her in a small beginner group with only 2 other dogs and she had the best time."
"It was a great experience for her to socialize with other dogs and a great experience for us--Brian and I almost feel like we learned more from the trainer than delilah did.
We're really proud of her because she has made a couple of friends that she gets along with, including Brian's mother's beagle. His mom has a fenced in backyard and the two pups spend hours playing out there. Since she spends most of her time in the city, "
"Delilah enjoys daily walks around the Mystic River (because there is no where else for her to stretch her legs) where she met her boyfriend Rosco (her first good play buddy).
I'm not sure Brian and I knew exactly what we were getting into when we rescued a dog, but she makes us so happy and we in turn try to make her as happy as possible. As you can see in the pictures she is quite spoiled. We can't leave the store without getting her a treat and she even has about 10 collars, her newest being her Blocky Dog collar. "
"Both of our families were very skeptical when we told them we were getting a pitbull. They asked / begged us to consider other breeds. At first they had a hard time trusting Delilah and she wasn't allowed around Missy (the beagle) or Brian's two nephews, but Delilah has definitely won both of our families over.
She's been a great ambassador for the breed. "
"So, thanks again for everything you do for these guys. It truly makes a difference. I don't know what our lives would be like without her. Have a great New Year.
Take Care, Kim and Brian"

Wow -- what great pictures, and what a great ending to this girl's journey --
-- GREAT WORK, Brian and Kim -- !!
Little Delilah is now a princess in her world, and all the hard work on both the rescue and parenting side is paying off --
-- GREAT WORK, DELILAH!!
