Danny is one of the boys -- FINALLY!

Here's darling Danny, our Seussical pit / wire terrier mix that was a globe-trotter before coming to SPBR...

Danny was originally at a foster home in Ontario, Canada, but was dumped when Ontario's breed-specific-laws kicked in...

He then went to a shelter in Erie, PA, when Vita, of PA, and Robyn, of CT, teamed up to pull Danny from death-row and get him to rescue.

Vita and Robyn drove an entire Sunday to meet up in Central NY to hand off Danny so the little man could come to rescue at SPBR -- THANK YOU, YOU TWO!

Danny was then at SPBR for a few weeks, when I noticed his sweet demeanor and pleasant personality --

-- he is the ONLY dog EVER to lie at my feet, in perfect contentment -- sort of like Ward Cleaver's best friend -- well, from there, I was determined to get the best of homes for Danny...

... enter Marc, his Petfinder inquiry, and a blizzardly Saturday. Marc had come down to see Danny a few weeks prior and loved him --

-- so much, indeed, he kept calling me up, asking, "When are you gonna bring him up... when?"

So, in the midst of winter, we decided to give this boy all he ever wanted -- a chance.

Armed with my Honda, GPS and Sirius radio, we passed all the neophytes to snow-squalls and trooped up to Marc's...

We were happy to arrive at Marc's, warm and ready to give forever-living a try...!

Danny was right at home at Marc's -- until he saw a little 6 month old puppy...

"Hmmm... he passes the smell test," says Danny...

... which translates to, "I'm neutered, and you're neutered...so I'm okay and you're okay..."

... and this wasn't any little man -- this was Guido, Glenn's boy, who met us up at Marc's to pick up some raw food.

Glenn adopted Geeedo from SPBR in November -- he is Dea's son, and a PRINCE!

More on that litter can be found here.

Back to Danny, he made his home base the sofa and was immediately comfortable --

GOOD BOY, DANNY!

he even found little Guido a formidable play-mate...

... and play they did...

... complete with dragon-growls and butt-runs...

... until they settled down and became friends...

... and Marc said, "This is great, let's give him a try!"

Well, I called the next day, and Marc said Danny did GREAT -- he slept 8 hours on Marc's bed, watched football with him, and, Marc said, since he bought a fold-and-carry crate, Danny even went to WORK with Marc -- !!!

Here is Marc with Danny, and Guido and me.. Mark says,

"Danny has already given me more than I could probably ever give him.  It's been a week and he is already my best friend."

People can say rescue is futile, and that nothing is accomplished, but here it is not the case... Danny was plucked from his terminal existence to be placed in a perfect world. Marc is a great adopter, and folks like Vita and Robyn are jewels in Danny's crown -- THANK YOU, ALL -- this is why we do it!

March, 2005 update:

Going Great. The latest.... I let him off his leash when we go to the barn. As long as I have a toy to keep him preoccupied he stays close to me OR comes back. So at least I can give him some time to exercise. Plus I get some well needed exercise.

He's used to my nephew now, but he tends to bark around him because he wants my nephew to throw a toy. My nephew doesn't like the barking so he kind of gets nervous around Danny. My nephew put some food in his bowl on Saturday morning, but Danny was more interested in playing than he was with my nephew feeding him. So, I will keep that up along with the group walks.

He had a Bacterial infection on his rear paws about 3 weeks ago. It looked like a small lesion or open sore. So I took him over to the Vet/Hospital in Glastonbury and had a check up. The vet said that quite a few dogs have a hard time fighting infections/bacteria. The way he explained it was I could treat it, but overtime it may come back. I got Antibiotics and anti-inflamitory which helped clear it up. He's good as new. I also picked up some special soap to wash his paws about 2 times a week. Also, I am scheduled to go back and get him tested for lyme disease/rabies.

Thanks again for bringing Danny into my life. He is a great companion!!!!

P.S. Everyone that has met him thinks that he is such a great dog. ....and cute

note from Eric: This type of update makes me so happy. Danny was one of the many "unadoptables" out there, by no fault of his own -- and his outstanding personality has really taken him in to the heart of Mark and his family -- again, I am so proud.

Another update!

Eric,

Hey! Just writing to let you know Danny's return to the vet went well. Got him a couple vaccinations and 6 months worth of Frontline for his time outside. I am making some progress with his fence. It's going to be about 50 paces X 90 paces. So it should prove to be a great spot for him to roam free (with supervision).

Anyway, back to work. I'll send an update on the fence hopefully within a week.

See ya.

Marc

June 2005 update!

Well, things keep getting better with Danny --

-- he's now been with Mark a good 1/2 year, and looks quite at home in his rural digs --

Mark writes --

"These pictures are from late winter/early spring. You can see the area I cleared and fenced in for Danny. Quite a bit of space for him to run around. Now it is overgrown with weeds, but I am chipping away at it every weekend."

He continues --

"Things are going great. Danny tends to be hot and cold with other dogs. He met a young male begel the other day and they got along fine. He met a young female pit, but they did not see eye to eye. :)

Danny weighs about 55-56 lbs now. His weight varies a bit. He stayed with my mother for about a week in late May and I think she spoiled him a little too much. He gained a pound or two. :)"

Well, if Danny didn't become a Mr. Fancy-Pants in his new world --

-- just look at him here, almost like he's saying, "I'm staying here -- it's perfect -- and you're not gonna move me -- !!"

Here's our boy, overseeing his new kingdom --

And he shows he can still have a bit of fun --

So there we are -- certainly not the last we'll here from Danny --

-- great work, Mark, in making this boy a special part of your life!

Sept 05 update!

Well, here's Danny's autumn update --

-- Marc writes --

"I hope things are going well. I finally got a digital camera. Here are a some new pics of Danny Boy!

Take it easy.

Marc"

Here's our little Danny, blending in to the foliage quite well -- !!

And here he is, play bowing with a plant --

-- oh Marrrrcccc, looks like Danny might need a play-mate before long --- !!

At home, he's a ham, loving and loved, and enjoying a toe-petting -- !!

And he is spoiled --

-- spoiling rescued dogs is absolutely encouraged from this side, especially dogs that were on death row --

-- YOU'RE DOING GREAT, Danny and Marc --

-- keep up the memories -- !!
