Scratch & Sniff

Well, talk about PRECIOUS!

I have worked with Sherry in NH before on Nibbles and his placements --

-- she writes of these girls --

"Hey Eric,

Any interest in cross posting these 2 sweet little girls? How are things in the pitt world.

We are still swamped with Katrina dogs and ever other rescue under the sun.

Hope you are well!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day!

Sherry"

Well, little Scratch and Sniff certainly are Princesses -- !!

I wrote Sherry for more infos, especially to see if they're deaf --

-- white bully-breeds are often deaf, genetically, and more on deaf dogs can be found here.

If you're interested in either of these girls, fill out an adoption application above!

RT

Here's sweet little RT -- Sherry writes --

"My name is RT and I was rescued by Puppy Angels after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. I have been in a kennel in NH for about 6 months and am still looking for my forever home.

I am a big, loving, goofy dog and would love to be able to finally settle down with a family of my own and shower them with affection."

"I am active and can be very energetic at times, but maybe that's just because I spend so much time in the shelter. Some dogs find me kind of annoying, because I play a little rough. I love cuddling, hiking, playing in the snow and playing in the water.

Oh yeah, I might be a mix of Mastiff or St. Bernard, but your guess is as good as mine. And they think I'm probably 1-2 years old."

Interested in these babies?

Can you show them a life like their predecessors couldn't?

If so, fill out an application above!

July 2006 update!

Well, Ms. Scratch got adopted, as did Ms. Sniff (aka, Luna) -- but Luna came back --

:(

Her rescuer writes --

"Luna got returned.

The people that adopted her have a miniature rat terrier type and think she's too rough for her…which was my concern from the beginning. If you want, we would appreciate you posting her again…but it's not a big deal if you don't have room.

She is a sweetie and just needs some training, so I think she'd do better with no small children or small dogs."

Well, so, Ms. Luna proved herself just what she is --

-- a BIG PUPPY!

So, the ideal (and only!) adopter will be someone willing to take her to obedience, someone without small kids or small pets, and someone who wants to commit to a playful little girl!

She further writes --

"Luna and her sister came to us from a high kill shelter in Virginia.  She is a beautiful girl, with amazing green eyes.

Even though white pit bulls can be deaf, Luna has no problems with her hearing.

Luna is crate-trained and very close to being completely housetrained, but could use some basic obedience training.  She is a puppy and may be a little too rough for small children and small dogs."

So, Ms. Luna is a REAL beauty, and is a girl looking for that special owner --

-- do you have the energy, time and commitment for dear Luna?

-- if so, fill out an application above!!

Here's out girl, home in Connecticut!

Well, our little Luna is happy and home in Connecticut with Rita and Bob -- !! They write --

"Eric, We wanted to let you know , last Sunday we went to New Hampshire to meet Luna. Ajax and Lucy also came along. It went quite well. Lucy was tentative at first, but then began playing with Luna. Bob and I fell in love with Luna and felt that this could really work. We were told to think about it and they would be in touch with us. I'm happy to tell you Luna is home with us today. She has been here for 2 hours and already we all (yes, including the dogs feel like she has been here forever.) Lucy won't leave her side, she is so happy. Ajax was playing till he collapsed on the floor. What do you expect from an old man of 3?  The girls are wandering the house.

I want to thank you so much for posting her and helping to make our home a happy one, once again. I took pictures today and will send them to you as soon as I figure it out, or get Bob to show me. Keep up the great work.

Sincerely, Bob and Rita"

One month later, they write --

"Hi Eric, Just wanted to drop you a note and thank you for your help in finding Luna.  She fits like a glove.  From the time she got out of the car, she knew she was home.  Ajax and Lucy love her and the 3 dog dynamic is developing more quickly that we had hoped.  There has been no arguments of bad behavior from any of the dogs and the play seems to be endless.

The two pups wear Ajax out,  he tries to keep up with their energy level, but just isn't able to and has to nap while they play.  Lucy and Luna play all day and sleep together at night."

"She is a real joy to have here at the house and we are so happy that we were able to get her.  I am sending along a few photos we took right after she got here and as you can see she became one of the family immediately."

"Again thank you for you help and we will keep in touch to let you know how things are going.

Bob and Rita

Luna has adjusted beautifully. she gained 5 pounds in three weeks. we just love her."

Here's our third update --

"Eric, as you can see wherever luna wants to lay down, she does so. ajax will grumble a bit, but lets her have her way. all three are doing great."

"we occasionally had minor issues at meal time with lucy geting a little aggressive with luna (usually while i am preparing the food), but effectively dealt with it by giving a time out in the crate. i now prepare the food while they are outside playing and we have no problems."

"they come in and go right to there bowls, which are in seperate areas of the kitchen. the girls love each other to pieces, but we always crate them when they are left alone.  they bring us great joy.

rita"

So, I waited a while to post little Luna's story --

-- she failed in another home, she was an adolescent, and she was going in to a home with an existing female and male --

-- SCARY, in short -- !!

BUT, I also know Bob and Rita well -- for two years -- and I know they know their existing dogs, and that they'll work like crazy to make Luna's home work....

... and that they did.

When behavior started getting snarky, Rita started crating, and the situation improved -- THIS is stuff I like to see -- responsible, adaptive ownership -- not quick dumping -- !!

I place dogs individually, based on the prospective homes, and the dog's personalities -- this placement is a great example of how tailored placements work much better of cut-and-dry "rules" placements.

Soooo... our girl is lucky in love, and she has made Rita's and Bob's home happy again --

-- GREAT WORK, ALL!
