SPBR in the Adirondacks 2010 -- at Nick Stoner Inn!!
Well, it's great having adopters and forum members with benefits --
-- and here we struck gold with our Jessa and her newest endeavor, an Adirondack Lodge -- !!
So, we packed up 15 of our faithful --
-- plus their 4-leggers --
-- and headed to the mountains -- !!
This is the Adirondack Mountains, which is pretty sizeable, and has lots of cool old vintage history -- :D |
Next stop, Nick Stoner Inn --
-- or "NSI' --
-- a nice old fashioned place -- !!
On the map, it's the big "A" -- |
As you can see here, pups-a-plenty came --
-- as did their adopters -- !!
And too, it's nice to know they're expecting you when you bring such a large clan -- |
So, first off, Jessa, in the white top --
-- and her girl, Phoebe, in the red collar --
Along with them here is Erica, at left, our trainer, and Ali, her training partner -- |
Miss Pheebles came to Jess last winter, very pregnant, and very sick -- |
She became an SPBR pup, and we guided Jess and Pheeb through a very difficult delivery at the emergency vet in Albany, where all of her babies were lost --
-- incredibly sad --
Well, since that difficult time, when Miss Pheebs almost didn't make it, Jessa and her husband have done a lovely job of making this girl a little diplomat of a pit bull, greeting and loving all lodge visitors -- !! |
So next, we're off on a small, but worthy, hike -- !! |
Up the path, little Elvis climbs.... |
... and alas, we arrive -- !! |
Next, Jessa takes her Floyd to the water edge -- |
-- and Floyd CERTAINLY has done this BEFORE -- !! |
-- and back to momma, it is -- !! |
Elvie says, "mmmkay -- that's enough -- where's LUNCH -- !!" |
So, back to civilization we go... |
... except for one moment, when Elvie realizes he's the littlest man in the forest -- !! |
Ahhh -- back to our roost -- !! |
-- and then it's off to eatin' --
-- country style -- !!
From left: Julie, Lisa and Lauren -- !!
-- and here, Marisa, Erica and Ali -- !! |
After lunch, we head back to our rooms --
-- and yes, they DO have wi-fi --
-- so much for roughin' it -- !!
All filled up with food, we head out to hang out -- !! |
Within moments we declare the picnic table ours -- !! |
Shhhh --
-- golfers at work -- !!
Erica oh-so-patiently listens to another dog training scenario --
-- and we just enjoy some beers and talk --
-- NOTICE in this picture, the NEW camelbaks are IN --
-- WOOT!!
They feature Elvis' mug, and a bite cap --
-- details incoming -- !!
Next, Lisa digs through her luggage to produce some old, and beloved, postcards -- !! |
Here is Lisa's little lady, Miss Polly Anne --
-- who came all the way from the Carolinas to stay with Lisa and clan -- !!
-- she works for food, I tell you -- !! |
Next, Deana and little Louie hang out a bit -- |
-- poor Louie was pulled by Christine at the Philly AC --
-- where he suffered an unknown physical malady, and was languishing in the pound --
-- well now, at Marisa's, he's QUITE the queen, this boy -- !! |
| |
We are fundraising for this boy to get expert diagnosis and vetting --
-- if you'd like to email Marisa for more infos on him, her email is marisa@spbr.org --
| |
Little Louie really enjoys life, I tell you -- playing like there's no tomorrow -- !! |
Here he is with Miss Melody, our Arkansas Angel --
-- Miss Pretty -- !!
Melody is a deaf pup, but that doesn't hold her back none -- |
-- see -- her foster momma, Erica, is already teaching her hand signals -- !! |
White pit bulls are often deaf, which can be properly addressed and managed --
-- to learn more on that, click here.
Here's Erica, working with Mel on her hand signals --
Next, we have little Winston --
-- or "Winnie" --
-- who is also available for adoption --
He is a LOOKER, this boy, and our Nicole is doing great in his fostering -- !! |
Here he is oh-so-patient for the paparazzi -- !! |
And next, perfect -- and beautiful -- obedience --
-- with a nice soft mouth -- !!
While he seems like a serious pup, he definitely has a playful side -- |
-- as he shows Erica here -- |
-- nibbling on this, licking on that -- |
-- a true JOY he is --
-- and AVAILABLE for adoption -- !!
Here is Nicole, little Winnie's foster mom -- |
-- and her Beau, another SPBR pup --
-- from the Philly pound --
-- whose EARS are to DIE for -- !!
Next, our onlookers --
-- plenty of gawkers, I tell you -- !!
All the dogs did great by these inquiries, and made us very proud --
The next adopter and NSI'er is Lauren, from Syracuse -- |
-- her boy is Avery, who Rose fostered --
-- and he LOVES to jump -- !!
-- and next, a little encouragement from his momma -- |
So, after that, Lauren finds our dragon puppy --
-- little Tonka -- !!
Here's Ali, Tonka's foster mom --
-- who was also so kind to foster his sister, Mitzi -- !!
Elvie says, "Ohhhhh -- Tonka looks awwwfully similar to yours truly -- !!" |
For comparison --
-- the Elvis --
-- and the Tonka --
--- MOOOOO -- !!!
Here's the two, Tonka and Mitz --
-- how PRETTY -- !!
Tonka and Mitz were at Philly AC when Erica found them --
-- she didn't hesitate a moment to get them as SPBR pups -- |
-- and we're so glad she did -- !!
You see, they're awfully cute, indeed, but they're also little pit bulls, so they also need some guidance in their upbringing, to make them ideal puppers -- !!
Ha ha ha --
-- the crazies -- !!
Pretty little lady -- !!! |
By "guidance in their upbrining", I mean they need general dominance / obedience help, which they're getting with Ali -- |
-- plus they need to find the BEST of adopters -- |
-- by that, we mean folks who will love them for their brains, not just their beauty -- |
-- and for folks who will never, ever let then end up in the pound again --
-- mmmkay??!!
So, with that, back to the FUN -- !! |
Ohhh, little man -- how perfect you are -- !! |
-- striking a pose, or taking a pee --
-- you decide -- !!
And next, what babies do best --
Little Mitzi finds herself a stone to chew on -- |
-- and is quickly corrected -- |
So, she searches for another -- |
-- busted AGAIN -- !!
Love the collar, by the way -- !!
Aw heck -- playin' is better than chewing on stones -- !! |
The look of love, or an invitation to play?? |
What did you expect -- !! |
Then, little Tonka, being a little slow-to-the-game, searches for a chewin' stone -- |
So, there we are -- Tonka and Mitzi -- |
-- perfect little examples of the breed --
-- maybe with a little bit American Bulldog or Boxer in them --
-- what a little HUNK -- !! |
-- and then, Elvis comes up to make sure eveything's where it should be -- |
-- and feels a little guilty about it afterwards -- !! |
Ahh, the last days of summer, spent happily in the Adirondacks -- |
-- happy dogs, happy places --
-- perfect!!
Thank you to Jess and to all the SPBR folks for a great weekend -- |
-- we had us some fun, got exposure for our puppers, and got to blow off some steam -- |
-- and thanks most of all to our fosters, who make the rescue work -- without you, we wouldn't be -- !!
See you in 2011, NSI -- !!
